Thank you for posting your copy of the letter. Unfortunately, it doesn't answer any of my questions. Just general PR.

Diana,
Did you receive your letter? Today's mail came but no letter. Have you sent an email to Richard with your questions? Maybe we could get a list together from other club members and send it to Richard. Some questions may not be able to be answered until they open. I was hoping for more from this letter.

I Love Aruba Re: Riu Grand letters

Many thanks to those responding to my inquirires concerning the ' letter' from the Royal Palm Club. George and I have questions that have not been answered in this letter. For example, What will the maintenance fees be? Will we still be able to book extra nights at a discount? What are the blackout dates for acceleration? We are assuming they will be the usual holidays, Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Of course, questions about new furniture, carpets and cabinets probably will not be answered for some time. Both of our units, 3rd floor and ocean front are in need of new or reupholstered furniture, with carpets and fabrics that are faded and stained. Others we have spoken to have broken cabinets and furniture. We were hoping for more specific information, instead of the general PR nature of this letter. On the other hand, it is nice to hear something after all of this time, and I am hoping Jon is correct in that we need to be patient and hope for more good news.

I just sent Loraine an email asking about booking extra nights, blackout dates and what the hut proceedure will be.

I think the AI options they are offering are very accommodating and fairly priced. I did ask her if we would be able to make a reservation at the restaurants that require one before we purchase individual AI's. I would hate to purchase and then find out that we are limited to where we can eat.

I'll post her reply.

Linda

Thanks for posting the letter. Just got today's mail and we did not get ours. I will wait another day or two and then send an email-seemed to have us on the list when it came time to pay.

I just received "The Letter" yesterday and received Loraine's reply to my e-mail today. Here it is:

We will send you a letter in May, giving you the exact opening date of the RIU Palace Aruba.
I have no informed about blackout dates, but if you want to accelerate you can send me your acceleration form and you will be informed at a later date.
Kind regards,
Lorainne Petit

Sue

This letter does not mention anything about increasing security camera's, etc. for tourist's staying at the resort. As a timeshare owner, rooming on the third floor, three years ago, we were robbed in the middle of the night. They entered through the balcony slidding door as we slept. Thank goodness we did not wake up during the robbery. No one was hurt, except mentally distraught.

Management blew off the incident as if we staged the robbery for insurance purposes. When we returned the following year, we found no added security, and had money taken from our room by the housekeeper's. Everyone, Please Be Careful!

However, Riu Aruba Grand does have camera's in the resort to protect "themselves" from the tourist's. You will find camera's in the casino areas, and by the cash registers.

FYI; I don't doubt chatrat052 claims, but we have NEVER had this type of experience at Aruba Grand (and we are on the second floor in an apartment unit with a spiral staircase to our balcony). And I do not anticipate problems of this nature at the new RIU Palace. I suggest good safety procedures no matter where you vacation: lock your doors and do not leave your money exposed.

Sorry you had to go through this type of problems. Did you report this to the police? If so, what was their response?

Yes, we filed a police report for our robbery as well as the neighbors next door who were also robbed. The police took finger prints, and other evidence and made their reports. After several requests, no results were given to us on the results of their investigation.

During the investigation, we were told that it could of been an inside job or it could of been someone from the island who is known to climb on top of high buildings and rob from the people through their balcony. This gentleman is known as "Spider Man" to the police. A well known professional robber.

Sure crime is everywhere, and, yes, everyone has to be careful. However, no one expects to be robbed in their own room that is locked. Our money and valuables were not exposed, who ever robbed us searched our room until they found what they were looking for. I'm just letting everyone know that it can happen. We were lucky that no one got hurt or killed.

I am writting this letter Hopefully to save one more person from being a victim. Again, I say to everyone, Please Be Careful. Aruba is a beautiful place, but, the sun does go down at night, and you need to be aware.
