Queen's Day Celebration

On April 30th of each year, the citizens of the Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, Curacao, St Martin and Aruba commemorate a unique and cheerful day known as Queen's Day. This very special day - rich in tradition and customs - is marked by the color orange in reference to the colors of the Dutch royal family, who actually come from the House of Orange-Nassau. A large variety of orange banners, orange colored foods, drinks and a dizzying array of orange clothing plus a variety of fascinating as well as creative accessories abound during this national holiday.
An unofficial Queen's Night customarily starts before Queen's Day, which is just like the daytime celebration full of music and fun. Many bars and clubs in Aruba arrange special events that last to the early hours of the morning.

April 29th Events

Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino

Kite Slam 4 Event

Kite flying at night has started to grow as must see event. Colorful creations with lights in different sizes are taking part in a healthy competition in a fundraising event to help the ‘Jong Aruba’ soccer team. It will take place at the sv ‘Jong Aruba’ field near the St Anna Church in Noord.
Date and time of the event: April 29th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm for enlisting, approving and testing only purposes. April 30th the first 3 categories compete. The competition is from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm May 1st the last 3 categories compete. The competition is from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm

The Queen’s Birthday is a totally orange affair

At CILO City Lounge in the Renaissance Marketplace, Orange Happy Hour on April 29th from 5pm to 7pm. Have an Orange Balashi Beer or Oranje bitter and only Dutch snacks is on the house. and later it's party time from April 29th to 30th. CILO will be decked out in orange celebrating Queen’s Day.
On Friday, April 29, the orange mood will already prevail, with live music by Angelo Koolman, lots of Dutch evergreens and orange Balashi beer on tap, complimentary `oranjebitter’ (liquor) and Dutch snacks; the orange mood will remain at CILO until the wee hours of the morning of the 30th. CILO is expecting you to come and celebrate; don’t forget!

Rock the Queen

At The Old Dutch Cafe (ex Taxi Central) next to the Eagle Bowling place will be featuring rock concert by famous local bands HONEYPOT and SO WHAT with Aruba's pride Roger Peterson. Entrance is FREE starting at 9:30pm.

Nouveau Riche

At Hard Rock Cafe at South Beach Plaza. Featuring: DJ's BigRig, Diablo, Vibez and Whiteboy. Presale tickets at ***tasy in Palm Beach, Ladies with Black High Heels enter for free before 12:00 midnight. Queen’s Day - April 30th

As soon as you mention Queen’s Day in Aruba we think of home-made kites adorning the skies; colorful creative compositions of paper and sticks. Several community centers organize kite flying competitions for the kids with flea markets and live music.

Official Ceremony

The traditional and official ceremony will be held at the Wilhelmina Park. Next to the Renaissance Marketplace. It will start at 9:30 AM. The governor will inspect the honorable young members of the corps royal marines. Also the governor will present the groups of young scouts of Aruba.While the flags of the Netherlands and Aruba are being raised the anthem will be sung by our young talents Kiziah Trimon and Veroushka Krozendijk.The president of Parliament drs. Paul Croes will have an opening speech congratulating the Aruban community on this special day.The governor Mr. Refunjol will give you an idea how greatly the Aruba community values their Queen Beatrix and all the members of the Dutch Royal House.
The second part of the program will be handing out the Youth Cup Gobernador Felipe B. Tromp to the swimmer Jordy Groters and 2 additional prizes to Jennelaine Vrolijk and Chester Hill. These are young athletes that have made remarkable achievements in sports this year. The prizes will be handed to them by the Governor himself.
The closing ceremony will be a parade of the young uniformed groups that will start from the Wilhelmina Park to the east direction ending at the Juliana School next to the Boy Ecury Plaza.
The entire community is invited partake in the ceremony from 9am at Wilhelmina Park and cheer the winners of the Youth Cup Gobernador Felipe B. Tromp.

In Residencia San Barbola

According to Dutch tradition there will be a large "FLEA-MARKET" on Queens Day. On this day, residents of 13 or more homes will sell all kinds of articles in or around their homes. The participants of this fantastic free-market will decorate their homes with orange flags, banners, balloons etc. Within the Residence there will be orange signs to lead you to the participating houses. Everybody is welcome to have a look around and have a pleasant time. There will also be music to make it a joyful day for the entire family. Directions coming from the roundabout at Tarabana; turn left at "Seven-Eleven" or "7/11", following the orange signs to get to the Residence of San Barbola.
Date: Saturday from 10:00 a.m. till about 3:00 p.m.

Latin Meets Orange!

This year, you will celebrate Queens Day like never before: Zissles brings you Latin meets Orange! Dance salsa, merengue and bachata to the beats of DJ Marlon, start the night with a FREE ORANGE SHOT and dance the night away! Dance school Pachanga will be at the spot to show off some royal dance moves to spice up the evening. Dress to impress: the best (orange!) costume receives a Zissling award!

Animal Rights Aruba

Animal Rights Aruba will have a fundraising event at the parking space in-front of Bingo Restaurant in Palm Beach. Animal Rights Aruba will be present from 10am to 4pm, selling t-shirts and offering puppies for adoption. The general public is invited to sustain ARA in this event; there will be a flea market, kid’s activities, music by a DJ, popcorn, cotton candy and lots more.

Iglesia Emmanuel

Iglesia Emmanuel is organizing a flea market day with BBQ, some of the additional goodies are nasi, soup, snacks popcorn, olliebollen, cake, cocada, chupabebe (homemade candy on a stick), kakinja (Aruban made candy) and more. Starting from 9 am to 4 pm at Iglesia Emmanuel (Emmanuel Church) at Grenadaweg 12C in Tarabana.

The Archeology Museum

The Archeology Museum is organizing a scavenger hunt inside the exposition room highlighting the Dutch part of history of the Amerindians of Aruba. Getting the chance to learn a little more of the Aruban history and its Dutch influence. Aruba became a Dutch territory in 1636 and MANA (Museo Archeologico Nacional Aruba) has some new artifacts and information from when these 2 cultures came together. Minimum age to participate is 6 years. You can get the forms at the Museum info counter starting at 10 am on April 30th and deliver it before 2pm. The winner of the scavenger hunt will get a special excursion guided by an archeologist and can bring along a maximum of 15 persons. The winner will be announced on their website:

Aruba Lions Club "Oranjebal"

Aruba Lions Club is organizing the famous Oranjebal one more time, live music by local bands Oreo and Tsunami. Taking place at the Renaissance Convention Center, entrance for couples is $200 and for singles $100. Time of the event is starting at 9:00pm till 2:00am. It is for a good cause. Idefre is organizing a Ciclovia event

It will take place at the parking space of Antraco L.G. Smith Boulevard, several sport activities will be in display like Aerobics and Zumba, but also a bicycle activities. A Bicycle tour will start at 3:00pm from Antraco to the Holiday Inn and then back to Antraco For more information call Idefre during office hours 582-4987.
Idefre and Arruwac are also organizing a boulevard race for the 51st time. It's a 10k walk on the L.G. Smith Boulevard. Maximum people participating is 400 racers.

Keep in mind that traffic in L.G. Smith Blvd. will be pretty busy this Saturday afternoon.

May 1st

The Dutch Marines (located in Savaneta) have an Open House for everyone on Labor Day. Several activities will take place including live music, a dancing competition, dino jump, and of course a flea market.
