I Love Aruba Flights Are Off the Wall

I bought my airline tickets for February 2013... US Air direct from Philly.. $706!! This past February my flight was $490. An award seat is now 80,000 miles!! Unfortunately, US Air has no competition out of Philly.

It's always a crap shoot about should I "buy now or wait and buy later," but with the way gas prices are going up every other day, I didn't want to take the chance of the fare going even higher.

I bought on Monday, and today it's $716... $10 higher.

Between the economy, flights, and prices going up at resorts, many people will no longer be able to afford a vacation. Sad.

I'm with you Elaine. I think airlines are just going to keep raising their ticket prices to go along with the higher gas prices. We bought our tickets for December the minute they were posted on Delta's website. We think we got a great deal for under $500 each. I've been watching them go up every week since we bought.
I heard on the news this week that a couple of airlines are now charging for carry-on bags also!!!! You can still carry a purse or a laptop at no charge. I knew that was going to happen sooner or later.

That is so ridiculous...it's common sense if people are travelling they are going to have luggage...1st bag should always be free on every airline. Airlines get away with way too much!!

Not to worry yet, Njkate, both of the airlines charging for carry-on luggage are 2 smaller companies. But you can be sure the biggies will start doing it too. It sucks for sure!!! Next will be pay to use toilets!!

Hi Elaine. I didn't think we would make it back to Aruba this year so I deposited my June LaCabana weeks. A Marriott Surf Club became available in December so I jumped on that. Got our US Airways tickets out of Philly also. Paid $10 more than you did, but I was afraid if I waited the price would only increase.

Hope you have a great summer in Pa.

Hi back, Tom!

You and Mary Jane are getting closer to my dates! I'll be there from February 2nd to March 1st..

USAir has a captive audience out of Philly which is a shame because it allows for no competition. Like you, I was afraid to wait because of the rising fares. And 80,000 miles for an award seat's absolutely crazy!

Hope you have a great summer in Jersey, too!!

Elaine, we may be getting close to your start date, but we are nowhere near your end date. I can only imagine spending a month in Aruba. As it now stands, this December trip will probably be our last Aruba visit until 2014 when MaryJane retires, and we will finally be able to use my June LaCabana weeks. With all the special assessments we have had there, it will be nice to be able to use the renovated rooms for the first time.

One Happy Island Re: Flights Are Off the Wall

Tom - I have a friend who goes in December, and is always asking me to join him. I keep saying that "someday," if ever I retire, I'm going to take him up on it. And, a month in Aruba is wonderful. Enough is never enough.

Keith, "my" Sir, we know the wait's definitely worthwhile! Are you ever going to get there in February??? I promise not to oversleep ever, ever again, and I could kick myself in the a** that I did when I "played" Stella!! Hey, this time I'll wear the green shirt or whatever color you choose!

Most of the flights I take from Toronto are between $8-$900, the taxes just kill us.
