In east central Florida, we are at $1.81 a gallon (down from $4.03...cheapest on July 4th week). Our county has an extra gas tax, so I suspect it is cheaper in Orlando (about 75 miles away).

Tuesday/Wednesday of last week I drove from Birmingham, AL to Orlando (then to Leesburg, FL on Thursday and back to Birmingham on Sunday). Regular gas in Birmingham at the start of the trip was $1.859/gal. It was around $1.729 in Dothan, AL. It was anywhere from $1.85 to $1.92 pretty much everywhere I noticed while in Florida. I did see $1.749 in The Villages so I filled up there!

Lesa,
On November 8th, we passed through Birmingham on our way to Branson, MO. Gas was cheapest in selected places in Missouri...as low as $1.78. When we left Florida, gas was still $2.11 in our area. We stayed in Jasper, AL...going and coming. We came back on 11/15. I admit I don't understand the logic of gas prices (if there is any). I think the prices in central Florida are some of the best in the state (from our travels). South Florida (Fort Lauderdale and Miami) always seems higher. Jacksonville is higher. St. Augustine is sometimes lower. If you get off I-95 in the need of gas in our area, you will pay 15-20 cents more per gallon (as compared to where the residents fill up). Whatever the prices, I suppose we should enjoy. If the economy EVER recovers, I'm am convinced the price will ROCKET up again. |

JohnJT,
Hope you enjoyed passing through Alabama. I had heard that our Alabama gas prices remained high after the prices started dropping elsewhere because the pipeline was damaged by the hurricanes. That said, prices are about 10 cents higher in the Birmingham area than in Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, etc. On my recent Florida trip I needed to fill up again once I exited I 10 onto US 231. I was hoping to hold out until Dothan but my DH wanted to stop at the nut place in Cottondale, AL. There was a gas station next door so I filled up there (over $1.80/gallon but my tank only holds 11 gallons so the difference is never much). We purchased Dawg Doo Doo (chocolate covered pecans) at the nut shop and they were pretty tasty once you got over the name, LOL! Lesa |

The recent posts here annoy me (in regards to gas price). Our price today is still up at $2.19 (regular unleaded). I see people paying $0.70 less than me. How is this possible? I understand that NY taxes are different than other states, but we are talking ~50% increase over someone paying $1.50. And we just got down to $2.19 today. Before today, it had been steady at $2.25 for a week or more. I paid $1.69 up in New Hampshire over Thanksgiving. If anyone knows who I can complain to, please let me know. Not that it will do anything, but maybe make me feel better.

how about your governor or local congressperson? any grass roots energy groups there? i know how it irritates me to pay more than other states.
i also know that the promises of the american automakers turn my stomach. today good morning america showed a test of hybrids and the asian cars won hands down but the big 3 want $32 billion dollars to stay in business. Quote:

$1.76 regular, $1.90 mid-grade, $2.00 premium at Citgo in Newington, CT (just south of Hartford). That's the lowest I've seen in the greater Hartford area. Amazing to think that we were at nearly $4.50 for regular just three months ago.
