Default Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival

Just wanted to share with all on the BB what a wonderful night of music it was last nite (Saturday Aug 18) at the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival. We got there at 8:30, so missed a few of the early acts, since it started at 6:30 PM ...

There were performances by Michel Camilo, Randal Corsen, Ronchi Matthew, Isoco and local artists such as Robert Jeandor, Antonio Bello, Sonic Lab 297 Richard Garcia Trio and Honey Pot.

When we arrived Ronchi Matthew's band was already on the main stage and had a large crowd enjoying the music.

Michel Camilo (pianist) was the main act and simply blew us away. I was told that he is originally from the Dominican Republic, which explains his Latin rhythms. The drummer was also amazing! It was a real treat to see him play with his band!

Randal Corsen also a pianist from Curacao gave a fantastic performance, fusing jazz tunes with typical Curacao drum "tambu" rhythms - who knew the islands had such talent!! The percussionist, drummer and bass player were top-notch!

Robert Jeandor and his band had a tribute to Santana which rocked the night away while Antonio Bello accompanied by the ever so talented Hildward Croes and Mirugia de Cuba and other local singers (sorry can't remember all the names) reminded us of Eric Clapton's unforgettable hits!

There is also an art expo with beautiful pieces by some of Aruba's well known artists. The atmosphere last nite was relaxed and allowed for you to stroll around from one stage to the next while getting a bit to eat, a drink or even take a piece of the evening with you (the mandatory event T-shirt or a CD).

Based on what we saw last nite, we definitely will be going again tonite and look forward to a mainstage performances by Randal Corsen, Jemm ft. Claudius Phillips with a tribute to Stevie Wonder and Praful (Dutch Jazz Band)

To Erik, Martin, Monica, Sam, Merel, Frederik, Harry and not to forget Heineken as well as all of the sponsors - thank you for putting it all together and hopefully this will be a yearly event not to be missed!!!!
