Smile Just back form RIU

Just returned last night from our timeshare at the RIU. There are improvements-slight, but evident. Ruella is much more responsive than Jelishka ever was. Units have been painted, staff was very responsive. Saw the coffee maker was broken, they replaced it within minutes. Beds (and frames) were new in our unit. Have a 2 bedroom beachfront, unit was very clean and was very well maintained during our stay.
I did speak to Richard, he is optimistic that things will get better-he knows it is slow going, but he in only a worker not the decision maker at RIU.
For us, this was the best visit since RIU took over.
There are problems to be sure, but the location, and property as well as staff were perfect.
Michael

One more change> You can start the All-inclusive (if you choose to) on Saturday and not be penalized. It will still cost $60 per day for the 6 days.

Enjoy.

Although I did the AI this year, I won't next. Breakfast and lunch -as well as the bar- are well worth it, but the dinners were mediocre.
The other interesting thing to note, if you do not want AI on Friday. You can start on Saturday for the same $60 per day fee. As Richard said, we heard, we listened, we responded.

Hi everyone,

Just returned myself last night. Had a great, relaxing week on the beach.
Hit a lot of my favorite restaurants and a couple nice new ones.

This is the fourth time I've stayed in my unit (1st floor, unit 170) since they've reopened and haven't noticed any change with the unit itself. The bed might be new but I never really noticed a problem with the old one. I find it odd they they are "picking and choosing" which units they are improving (paint, etc).

I do agree Ruella is a pleasant improvement. Very friendly and welcoming.

I truly hope the "large scale" changes are coming because, for me, you just can't beat the location and the beach.

Hi Rd,
Thanks for the report. Glad you had a nice time. Which restaurants did you enjoy?
At least the sun is out in Pittsburgh-just wish the white stuff was sand!
Did you think the resort was full-how about the timeshares?
Thanks and welcome home!!

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for the welcome!
We were told the RIU was 93% full and has been steadily busy. It's hard to tell how many timeshare folks were there but it looked like there was someone in all but one of the beachfront units.

Madame Janette is an every visit place for us - It didn't disappoint once again this year. But easily the favorite for both of us this year was Yemanja Woodfired Grill. This place is now on our "every year visit list". It was awesome! Another pleasant surprise was Scala. It's upstairs in the Paseo Herencia Mall across from the Holiday Inn. The food and service was really good. Had a dinner and a lunch at Salt & Pepper - always good. One other "honorable mention" was a first time visit to Mirandi. Always wanted to try this place. Great atmosphere and decent food.

Thanks RD-I have Yemanja on our list. We like Que Pasa and I think it is the same owner. My hubby does not like eating outside so MJ's is out for us. I have eaten there when on a girls trip and really enjoyed it.
Hope we get some more reports. It helps with these cold days.
