Wink Honeymoon at the RIU

I am going to the RIU in October 2010 for my honeymoon. I have never stayed here and have been reading the reviews, which are good and bad.

Can anyone just fill me in on the current condition of the hotel and the rooms and what I should expect.

I am also looking in to AI. Is it worth doing? What is the cost for AI for the week? I also read that the AI does not include the swim up bar, is this accurate?

I am staying in room 562. Does anyone now where this room is located and what the room has inside? The print-out I received from Interval International shows it a 1 BR, with 2 BA and a small kitchen and fridge. Do the rooms come with alcohol and beer in the room like the hotel, or is this separate.

Are the timeshare room in a different building than the hotel?

Thank you everyone for your help in this. My fiance and myself thank you!!

I am an owner of unit 562. The info you have is correct. It faces the Raddison. The kitchen has everything you need-no oven- and if you need anything ask housekeeping.
The units are not stocked like the hotel rooms. The last info I got was--if you do not go with AI-the only place to get a drink is the pool bar and you charge it to your room. We take a cooler to the beach with bev. and snacks.
The AI does include the pool bar. The cost is $60.per day per person . You can just go with 2 or 3 days but the charge is $70 per.....You can also just pick a meal for the day and pay for that. We liked the buffet. Thought the food was good and had a good variety. You will get many opinions on that.
Hope this helped. Feel free to ask any questions you have.

Congratulations!!!! Relax and enjoy.

Listen,

You are on your honeymoon go AI- that is what the Riu is all about.

Yes,Yes,Yes there are GREAT restaurants on aruba as you will hear from others,but...

You both are going to want everything the RIU will have to offer that is why you must do the AI.

Even if you go out a couple of times to a local restaurant it is well worth it.
Also do the FULL week so you will be able to enjoy the specialty rest. as well as the buffet(which i love the most).

Congratulations to you both and have a GREAT time !!!

-Eric

How early do you have to get up to get a chair at the pools?
If there out of chair at the pools, does the beach have plenty?

How does the AI choice resturants work. I read something about doing reservations in person.

We were always able to get beach chairs no problem, as for the pool sometimes you may have to search around a bit but again always got a couple.

Do the whole week AI.

For the specialty restaurants...
"Krystal" Fusion Restaurant
"Sayuri" Japanese restaurant
"Milano" Italian restaurant
"Steakhouse"

Make reservations in morning.
We were told by 10:00am but was always able to still make reservations 11:00,12:00 with no problem. They will give untill they run out.
  • Formal dress is required for dinner (main restaurant: T Shirts with sleeves for gentlemen; theme restaurants: long trousers and T Shirts with sleeves for gentlemen)
  • Snacks 24 hours a day
  • Beverages:
  • Unlimited local and imported beverages 24 hours a day(sports Bar)
  • Drinks service at the pool

  • Continental breakfast/snack
  • Lunch:
  • Hot and cold buffet and on the spot cooking stations(main buffet room is the best, but if your pool side you can go for lunch at the Nautilus - This poolside restaurant/grill)but much more options at the main buffet room.
  • Pizzas, pasta, salads and assorted desserts
  • Dinner:
  • Buffets and on the spot cooking stations

On the Wifi question. It is free in the Lobby and on the veranda outside the lobby. Beyond these locations the signal fades quickly.

My timeshare is on the 1st floor Ocean Front and I did not have any Wifi signal while I was there. Hope this helps.

Enjoy!!! And yes definitely go AI all week it is the cheapest price I have ever seen ($60 a day). I have timeshare at the Occidental and their AI is $110 a day and the quality and variety of food pales in comparison to the RIU. I also agree the Buffet is excellent, I don't eat anywhere else!!

Just the opposite. You need to get out to the beach by around 7:00am or before. After 7:00 it gets pretty thin. I always see empty chairs at the pool all day long.
